Do you put yourself in the penalty box when you self sabotage? A self punishment phase is often responsible for a slow ‘get back up’ rhythm. Let’s talk about it on this episode!
Stages to change for me look a bit like this: (Imagine the ‘something’ is the self punishment phase – but you can swap it out for anything really)
- I do something unknowingly and create something I don’t like.
- I become aware of what I’m doing.
- I still do something knowingly and create something I don’t like.
- I become aware that I could do something different.
- I try not to do something knowingly and realize after I’ve done it that I did it again and created something I don’t like.
- I try not to do something knowingly and notice as I’m doing it and still do it and created something I don’t like.
- I try not to do something knowing and notice as I’m doing it and stop – nice!
- I try not to do something knowingly and notice I’m about to do it and still do it – oops.
- I try not to do something knowingly and notice I’m about to do it and stop – nice!
- I try not to do something knowingly and don’t even notice I didn’t do it and when I realize it later, I feel so good.
- I don’t even have to try anymore, I just don’t do it and I’m creating something I like!
It’s not a perfect progression, sometimes there’s slippage… but since I’m always growing, I’m always aiming in the ‘create something I like’ direction ❤
Next time you fall down:
- Find the consequence and acknowledge it.
- Skip the punishment phase!
