Episode #65: Have Something To Say

December 2

There’s a common thread I see among entrepreneurs who struggle to gain a foothold in business and build a community.

They have nothing to say.

Here at LP+MM, I’m all about Content Marketing.

What is Content Marketing to me?

Telling stories, providing information, teaching step by step how to, interviewing enthusiasts and experts, sharing experience – all with written word, audios, videos, graphic tools.

All this feeds into blogging, podcasting, videos, social media, email marketing, streaming, speaking…

Content Marketing done well will attract and serve a community of people.

Content Marketing done not-well… well, it doesn’t do much at all.

I can teach you how to do it – but friend, if you don’t come to the party with something to say… I can only help so much.

You’ll learn from me. You’ll be motivated and encouraged too. You’ll know what to do – AND it’s not enough.

You’ve got to want to lead & serve.

Passivity is not a trait that serves you or a community well. I believe anyone feeling drawn to content marketing has a seed of leadership inside.

You may not feel like a leader today. I remember when I did not either. Trust me, the seed is there or you wouldn’t be here.

As you work on your business, work on yourself. You won’t regret a single moment or dollar you give to self development and leadership training.

You must be devoted to building your own body of experience.

Being an echo of others can only take you so far. It’s when you get your hands dirty through implementation that you have unique perspectives to share.

What does this mean for you? What experience do you value in others in your niche? What makes someone noteworthy and respected? How can you involve yourself in similar experiences?

If you want to coach and teach, COACH and TEACH NOW.  Offer yourself up to others in creative ways.  (My Ten Testimonials training gives you a solid plan to gain experience in whatever you’d like to build expertise for.)

You’ve got to have an opinion.

Being opinionated IS part of content marketing. When there are a dozen different ways to get something done, people want to hear what your choice is.

Sure, it’s risky to express an opinion. When you take a stand on something, it invites disagreement as well as agreement. Don’t let that stop you.

Having an opinion about what you’re publishing is what makes the content flow – especially when you’re using pre-written PLR content. Your perspective on topics helps you make quick personalization tweaks to make the content your own.

If you look at PLR you’ve bought and don’t know how you’d like to edit it – that’s a PROBLEM. It’s a bad sign that you don’t know what you’d like to keep, remove or edit. It’s a sign that you don’t know what you want to say.

When you don’t know what you want to say… why would anyone ever want to hear from you?

You’ve got to tune into YOUR voice.

You’ve got to tap into YOUR vision for your community. If you don’t have one – GET ONE!

By the way, THIS email is an example of me being opinionated ❤

I’m willing to risk ticking people off in order to stand up for a perspective I believe serves my community.

Has all this really frustrated you? I can imagine the answer for many is YES.

Do this:

Close your eyes.

Take a few deep breaths and move your body a little to loosen up.

Think about the community you want to attract and serve. Imagine someone specific.

  • What do you want to protect them from?
  • What do you want for them?
  • What do you want to say to them?

Write down what comes to mind. Let the ideas flow without self-criticism. Spill it out.  I invite you to really trust yourself.

Let what you’ve written down soak in for a bit and come back for Part Two in Episode #66
