Which Virus Protection?
I’ve been using Avast as my virus software for years, and every year when the renewal comes up, I say I’m going to change. Every year I don’t, because I just never make a decision on what to go with.
Now it’s nearing that time of year again.
I’ve been reading various software recommendation sites and Avast doesn’t even make the list for virus protection! Every site I’ve seen so far seems to have Bit Defender at the top of the list. Does anyone use this?
And if not, what do you use and recommend?
(By the way, I am on a PC.)

I too was with Avast a while. Bit Defender is well regarded.
Problem I’m having with everything I tried in last year is it slowing my computer down too much.
At moment I’ve been using just Windows Defender for about 90 days. It’s also but slow.
Also read advice that with patching,updates, much safer browsers with built in virus protection we may need less stand alone antiviral software.
I want to research more again towards new year. I’d look at CNET, ZD Net, and WireCutter.

I’ve been using Avast for years and am happy with it so haven’t switched. Having said that, my laptop I purchased in May came with a free trial to McAfee so I purchased that for my laptop instead of adding Avast to it. I don’t see a difference between the two but maybe I don’t know what things to look for.

I’ve been using Norton forever. I’m open to changing now that I’ve gone Mac. Need to do some shopping around for recommends.

Thanks everyone! At this point I’m seriously considering switching to BitDefender. I did think about Norton, because it’s combined with LifeLock now, but I keep reading that it is one of the worst for slowing down your computer. (That was why I switched away from it years ago.)
I have used CNET and sometimes PCMag, but my go-to for tech reviews is usually Tom’s Guide. I like how that site lays out all the pros and cons in a thoughtful, well-explained way.
