Being a laptop lifestyler is super awesome, we get to set our hours, travel near and far and create a life of freedom.
There is one thing that is not so awesome that affects most laptop lifestylers and it can wreak havoc on our health and that is the amount of time we spend sitting.
The scientific community has coined the term “Sitting Disease” when referring to metabolic syndrome and the effects of an overly sedentary lifestyle.
Research shows that sitting too long can increase your chances of being affected by high blood pressure, the oh so dreaded constipation, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and excess and the unwelcomed belly fat. All of these issues can and will lead you on a path to more disease if you do not take action.
But there is a simple solution that is easy to implement when we keep it top of mind.
Get up and move!
Our brains need a break, our eyes need a break and our body is designed for movement.
Movement is a benefit to your entire self… mind, body and soul.
Yes, we know, easier said than done. That’s why we have put together a few simple ideas that don’t require a trip to the gym.
Please pick 1 of the items below to implement this upcoming week. Go ahead right now and place it on your calendar, view it as a life-saving appointment with yourself.
- Set your alarm on your phone for one time in the morning and one time in the afternoon. When the alarm goes off get up and take a 15minute walk. Doing this twice a day will give you 30 minutes a day of light cardio.
- Purchase a standing desk. Keep in mind it will only benefit you when you use the standing feature
- Commit to standing and walking in place during telephone calls or zoom room calls that do not require you to be on camera
- Start your morning or end your day with a 30-minute walk
These are simple steps that don’t require a lot of effort or time but they do require your commitment to allowing yourself to do something that will greatly benefit YOU!
We would love ❤️ it if you would share which activity you select. Please share in the comments below. It will help us know how we can give you more of what you want and need.
